Life’s journey has a beginning and an end. Hospice services help patients and families reach a place where they can begin to look at death as a natural part of life. By providing terminally ill individuals and their families with medical care and comfort measures that allow patients to be free of pain, hospice services make it easier to keep the focus on the quality of the life a patient has left to live. With hospice, the end of life is approached with dignity and handled with love.
The first Medicare-certified hospice program in the region, Hospice of the South Shore has been providing the highest quality home health care services for terminally ill patients and their families since 1980. Our family-centered approach embraces the whole person and encompasses the physical, spiritual, and emotional aspects of care.
Our Services
Hospice of the South Shore is able to bring care to you or your loved one in the comfort of your home, an assisted living facility, or long-term care facility. Our multidisciplinary team provides everything from nursing and rehabilitation services for the patient to respite care and bereavement programs for the family. The team includes nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, aides, volunteers, and others.

What to Expect
With a family member or loved one serving as the primary caregiver for the patient, our hospice team provides support and care through scheduled visits. During these visits, our multidisciplinary team evaluates and addresses the needs of the patient and family – with expertise, respect, and a true sense of caring.
Our nurses are available 24-hours a day, seven-days a week for emergency consultations and visits. Should hospitalization become necessary, our hospice team continues to support both the patient and family during a related hospital stay.
Hospice Volunteer Services
At Hospice of the South Shore, we have great appreciation and respect for people who give of themselves by serving as hospice volunteers. These generous, kindhearted individuals are key members of our hospice team, and they are indispensable to our patients and their families.
Many of our volunteers have personally benefited from hospice care during a loved one’s serious illness, and they want to help families facing the same difficult time. Others are compassionate individuals who simply want to give of themselves in a very special way.
Our hospice volunteers often work directly with patients and families, providing compassion, companionship, and emotional support. In many cases, the hospice volunteer becomes a true and trusted friend to a patient and family.
Volunteers donate their time and efforts in a wide variety of ways, such as reading to, talking with, or writing a letter for a patient. They may prepare a meal, provide transportation, run an errand, or give a family member a little time off from the role of primary caregiver.
